Day 10

Thursday, November 17, 2011 – We made it to Day 10! Yesterday I had my second platelet transfusion. Before the transfusion I got Tylenol and Benadryl as a pre-med. I was already tired yesterday, and the Benadryl made me even sleepier! The platelet transfusion went fine, and then when we got home I went to sleep. I slept all afternoon, and only got up to go to the bathroom and take my pain pills every four hours. It was wonderful! I got up for dinner last night and stayed awake for a little while, and then slept soundly all night long! It was great to start getting caught up on sleep.

Today we are at the hospital. We got here a little bit early, and stopped in the Courtyard Cafe for lunch. I had a cheeseburger and curly fries, which were really really good. We drew my labs and the bloodwork looks better today. My WBC (white blood cell) has DOUBLED since yesterday! Yesterday it was 0.2, today it is 0.4. We’d like for it to continue climbing until it reaches 3.0 or 4.0.

Last Thursday was the first NFL game of Thursday night football this year. My thought last Thursday night while watching the game was that if I could make it to this Thursday night things would be a lot easier. We made it, and tonight I get to watch the Denver Broncos take on the New York Jets. Which team are you rooting for?

Day 9

Wednesday, November 16, 2011 – We have made it to Day 9! Supposedly Day 10 is the hardest, and then it starts getting easier. We’re almost there! Today I got my second platelets transfusion. Everything else looks good. I slept well last night, because Jacqui has been helping me remember to take my pain pills on a regular schedule. It’s the first good night’s sleep I’ve gotten in awhile, so I feel really tired today. Hopefully I can have another peaceful night tonight as well.

Day 7

Monday, November 14, 2011 – I hit my pain threshold at 2am this morning. Hello more pain medication. My mouth is really hurting. In other news my hair is totally falling out and looks really funny today. The pictures below tell the story.

I feel pretty good today, other than my mouth hurting. The weather in Nashville is balmy and warm–I’m in shirt sleeves. We hope to not spend too much time at the hospital, and then go home so i can get some rest.
