Habitat Pictures, Blitz 2011 Day 8 Saturday Dedication Day

Day 8 of Blitz Week 2011 for Habitat for Humanity! We were working on the center house with the UT Interfraternity and Panhellenic Groups.

Saturday! Dedication Day for all the blitz houses. It’s hard to believe these house were nothing more than a concrete slab a week ago. The Dedication Service began at 11AM, and lots of people arrived around 10AM to tour the houses and see what a wonderful job all the volunteers did. I hooked my ipod up to the sound system so people could have music before the dedication. Of course I had to play Don’s song, “We Built This City (on Rock and Roll)”, and Jacqui’s song, “This is the House that Jack “Jax” Built.” The music was very good.

The good news about today is that it wasn’t raining, and the sun shone some of the time. The bad news is that the sky was overcast a lot, it was VERY VERY VERY WINDY, (did I say it was windy? It was very windy.), and the temperature kept getting colder and colder. There must have been a cold front blowing in.

The dedication service was very special, and very touching. The City and County Mayors were there, as well as many Habitat Board members, the covenant partners, house leads, crew leads, and lots of volunteers as well. My parents even came out for the dedication, which means a lot to me. See if you can spot them in the pictures. It’s amazing what can happen when all these people get together to help their fellow neighbors in our community. Everyone did a wonderful job, especially our homeowners. The homeowners have a done an amazing job to get where they are today, and we are all very proud of them.
