Day 4 of Blitz Week 2011 for Habitat for Humanity! We were working on the center house with the UT Interfraternity and Panhellenic Groups.
Tuesday! Cold. Wet. Rainy. Miserable. not even the kind of rain that comes and goes…. more like an annoying mist that keeps slowly coming down, soaks into your clothes, and chills you to the bone.
It was not a very productive day. We made some headway on the siding, installed the front gable window, worked on window trim, and not much else. As stated before, it was cold, wet, rainy, and miserable. We didn’t even work till 4pm. Everyone stopped working around 3 or 3:30.
Now I have a little confession to make. By “we” I don’t mean me. I was totally wiped out after working on the house Saturday, and Sunday, and have only gone to the build on the weekdays for an hour or so around lunchtime to take pictures, get the scoop on what’s happening, and learn enough to post pictures and update the blog. By “we” I mean all the wonderful Habitat staff, the very dedicated crew leaders, and especially all of our amazing volunteers that keep coming back to build Habitat houses.
Drywall crews were working inside today. They were using mud that dries “in 45 minutes.” not going to happen with all the wet weather. We won’t be able to start painting the interior walls until Thursday. It’s going to be cutting it close to have the house ready by dedication on Saturday morning.
Last year the drywall, HVAC, electrical crews, etc worked in the evenings and at night on the houses. I wonder how that option compares to working during the day?
Hopefully Wednesday will be warmer.
