Monday, November 7, 2011 – Today is my Day Zero. My transplant day. Life begins at Day Zero.
Today I will get fluids and my stem cells through IV. My stem cells will be free floating around in my bloodstream, and their mission is to find their way into my bone marrow, engraft, and start rebuilding my new cancer free immune system. This whole process can take two to three weeks. My stem cells will appreciate all the support and encouragement you can send them while they accomplish their mission of engrafting in my bone marrow and rebuilding my immune system.
I survived 5 days of chemo. I had my day of rest. My body is now going to get very weak. My blood counts will be very low. I may have to have blood and electrolyte transfusions. My immune system will be non-existent. Today is Day Zero. Tomorrow is Day One. We now start counting upwards to Day 30. Our goal right now is to get to Day 30. We’re going to do it!
My understanding is that I’m going to be very tired and sleep A LOT during the next few weeks. This time is going to be really hard on Jacqui as she works tirelessly to take care of me. She needs your support during this time as well.
Thank you all for your continued support during this time and during the next few weeks. Jacqui and I love getting comments on this blog. They are so encouraging. I also appreciate all of the emails, text messages, and facebook messages from you all. They are a source of strength for me.
We’re in this together. We’re gonna do it. We’re gonna get to Day 30. Wednesday, Dec. 7th. We’ll all celebrate. Now go make my day by writing Happy Birthday on my Facebook Wall.
