Initiate Operation GOHOME

Monday, November 21, 2011 – We are getting out of 11N and going home! Such a great feeling. We’ve been here since Thursday night, and they take really good care of me here, but it will be nice to get out of here and go home. Here’s what’s happening:

8:00 AM – The doctor came in to see me and said I can go home today. Once he finishes rounds and puts the order in the computer we can get out here.

8:15 AM – The nurse unhooked my IV line. I am free! Now to get out of the hospital so I can take off my wristband.

Somewhere in here, I went to go to the bathroom. I got out of bed, walked halfway to the bathroom, turned to grab my IV line to make sure it didn’t get tangled, and it wasn’t there! The nurse had already unhooked it. I got a sheepish grin on my face and realized that even though I was happy that my IV had been unhooked, I missed that it wasn’t there. Strange…

9:57 AM – We are leaving 11N! I can take off my wristband. We took the elevator down to the 1st floor, and walked through the lobby to the front door. I was amazed…there were REAL PEOPLE in there! After 3+ days of not seeing much of anyone besides doctors, nurses, other patients hooked up to IV poles, and caregivers, it was very strange to be out in the real world again.

The hospital got its holiday decorations while I was upstairs this weekend. Holiday decorations can be so happy.

It will be good to get home. I’m looking forward to not being checked on every hour by a nurse, being able to kick back and relax in a room bigger than a large closet, and feeling like I can breathe normally again. It’s been a stressful weekend in the hospital. I’m glad that it’s over and that my immune system is coming back.

Dear Andrew: You are so blessed and loved by so many of us!

You will never forget the Thanksgiving of 2011–you are out of the hospital, home, and on your way to a long and healthy life with the love of your life. How much better can it get. All the hell you both went through, you can look back on now. You are healing, your body is responding and building new healthy cells everyday, and I’m sure you’re feeling better.

You did it–you beat the beast and put him down. I can’t even begin to tell you both how happy I am. Here’s to the best Thanksgiving ever. Praise God for the gift of life.

    Love to you both,
    Mot

Glad you’re home. Anja and I will be out of internet access till Monday. Looking forward to hearing about high WBC counts when we get back. Keep growing that immune system.

So glad you are home!…stay there! Watching the news, the airports and roads are a night mare! I got out to run to Fresh Mkt. and by Starbuck’s:)…and thought I would NEVER get back home. (and you know how close I am to both places)…
You guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving! (I just can’t believe it is already THAT time of the year)…and yes, Christmas decorations are up every where!!! My thoughts and love are with both of you…

    Dear Andrew,
You are right. The rooms on 11N are so small. I know how thrilled you are to go home. I’m relieved that you are out of inpatient care and back with Jacqui’s family.
Skip and I are driving to Atlanta Friday to meet my stem cell donor. Sabrina is flying into Atlanta on Thanksgiving day to spend the holiday with her grandparents. I am very excited about meeting my “Angel Donor”. It’s bound to be an emotional experience.
    Love, Charlotte

Andrew, I’m so happy to hear that you’re out! I’ve been praying and hoping for your recovery and now I’m grateful for everything that’s happened to help you along your way. You’re a serious contender for having the greatest outlook of any person I know. May G-d bless you and keep you. May G-d’s gaze rise to meet your own and bring you peace.

    Blessings,

    Ann
